School assigment -
Storytelling photography

This is a school assignment where the breif was to take a storytelling photography.

The idea behind the photography is "A Break in The Everyday Life." Since I moved to Sunne to study at Brobygrafiska, some classmates and I have had a little tradition every Wednesday where we have dinner at one of our places. Besides enjoying dinner with friends who were initially strangers, it has been incredibly nice to have a little break in the middle of the week, where (most times) someone else serves food, and we get to think about something other than school.

My initial idea was to create an image where one person plays all the participants around the table. The plan was to cut out the person from different pictures and places into one image. During the process, there were some changes, and it ended up with the empty space now having its own meaning. The picture conveys movement and energy in the room, both in the arm reaching for the wine glass but also in the empty space in the upper left corner, suggesting being in the middle of the night. Maybe the friend went outside smoking or on a restroom break.

We were also tasked with using at least three composition rules. These are some of the ones I applied:

Point of view: The camera is in a bird's eye perspective to provide an overview of everything happening.

Repetition: Repetition occurs in the round shapes found everywhere on the table and the table itself.

Rule of thirds: The image is divided into thirds, with two-thirds dedicated to the table and its items, while the last third provides space for the person and the empty area.
